Title: A Sith Goes to School

Tagline: Can the Force save you from a failing?

I will be the Director/Producer this round.

The story will be a Mockumentary, a made up documentary. 

The genre will be a comedy sci-fi video.

The main character will be: Darth Qwo

Storyline will be a mock interview with Darth Qwo and the screen. While I do plan on doing small interactions on the B roll with Darth Qwo and his teachers, fellow students and enemy jedi, etc. It will be following him through everyday scenarios that make up the college experience after failing out of the Sith Academy.

Phrases and Script

Interesting Phrases:

"NOT America's favourite comic"
-I heard this at a Milwaukee Comic Convention vendor in regards to his comic. He wanted to pursue a different avenue in his piece where he had no boundaries in his writing. He stated this to everyone who passed by his table.

"Austin is a blueberry in a bowl of tomato soup."
-I heard this when I was in Austin for an event earlier this week. It was a descriptor used by one of my friends as to the political climate of Austin in comparison to Texas in conversation.

"A beard does not make a philosopher"
-This was a comment made by my boyfriend to me after we passed a particularly talkative passerby who was getting very introspective with every step but seemed to be full of hot air.

"Nothing comes from nothing"
-This statement was  said by a comic book panelist. He was speaking to the room and it was in regards to keeping a web comic going, for his major point was that in order to gain a large audience one must be regular in posting, for no one is going to notice you if you do not do anything.

"Heaven won't take me and hell is afraid I'll take over"
-This was heard in passing, but is a really common phrase. I was heading home from Chicago and I heard a woman speaking to a group of friend when she said that, and despite it's commonality she got a few heckles from it.

A New City Climate

EXT. A CROWDED SUNDAY MORNING RESTAURANT AT BRUNCH. TWO COUPLES ARE AT A PICNIC TABLE UNDER AN AWNING, COUPLES ARE WALKING WITH DOGS, MANY IN COSTUME AS IT IS A PLEASANT SUNNY MORNING THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN.

DAN sips at his man-mosa (an extra large mimosa in a pint glass) sitting next to his wife and another couple at a picnic bench with an awning. Couples are walking along the sidewalk with dogs, many in costume as it is a pleasant sunny morning the day before halloween. The conversation amongst the four has gone all over the place, from religion, and love, to food and politics. After a particularly big bite he looks over at his best friend then states:

DAN

You know, with all of the political climate around here, Austin is a blueberry in a bowl of tomato soup

After said statement, everyone nods in said agreement and one of the women wittily chuckles. With that introspective introduction to the political issues of Austin, the two residents of Austin, Dan and his wife begin to go indepth with Austin politics, mentioning heavy hitters amongst bites of delicious brunch food to the new comers over breakfast.

Describe the scene and action.

How many people are on camera?

Just two, Michelle Fitzgerald the interviewer.

How much space is needed?

Mostly filmed within the shop. Enough space to interview and also see some demos done.

Will the action be shot from one or multiple locations?

No, just one location. Yet there will be multiple viewpoints and offshoots so it's not just two people talking.

Is there off-screen space available?

Plenty, the shop is pretty large and accommodating.

What are the light levels and sources of light?

There are inside lights as well as a skylight, so there is plenty of light to capture the scenes.

How does this impact your scene?

Very well, it helps so that when we are doing the zoom in shots we are really able to get decent focus.

Are you recording sound?

Yes, but voices. Some of the classes we will want to put in some of the tippy tappy sound effects.

Are there any issues to be aware of?

None, this should be pretty straightforward.

Is there any special equipment needed?

Not as of this moment.

Are there any concerns that need to be addressed about shooting at this location?

None, this location is very relaxed and I'm very good friends with the business owner so if multiple shoots and times are needed the shop is available.

This interview could be used as a documentary for those who have never heard of Cosplay, or are unfamiliar with the fine details of it. This would bridge the gap in between professional seamstresses to the tailors of the cosplay age.

How long have you been sewing?
For 50 years.

What inspired you to get into the business of sewing for hire?
When you make your own things, people notice and then ask about them. As an artist, I sketched and wanted to try to go into business for myself. I always liked how fabric was very fluid, and I would be able to work with the piece due to thinking artistry.

Who was your favourite customers?
My favourites were people who wanted me to make them costumes, they appriciated my work moreso.

What kind of costumes have you made?
Penguin, Snow White, and plenty of capes.

What prompted you to put down commercial sewing?
People were unwilling to pay what I was worth and unreasonable customers.

What do you think of the recent popularity of sewing because of Cosplay?
It's going to make that niche aspect of sewing coming back. The handmade is coming back instead of buying premade and easily replicated. We're artists in our field and able to do what other artists do on canvas or in sculpture.

When did you first hear about cosplay?
From my daughter!

What interests you about Cosplay?
The sheer diversity of ideas you can come up with. Variations of ideas upon a character, something different to be interesting.

Have you thought about pursuing cosplay and selling pieces on Etsy?
Not on Etsy, but more in person or at fairs. Measurements are not always accurate when taken by customer so I've never been interested online.

Are there any characters you would personally think about Cosplaying?
Anne of Green Gables. The attention to detail is exquisite, and the colours blended perfectly to the scenes and the characters, looking almost ethereal.

Is it narrative, performative, conceptual or a combination?

This music video by A-Ha is a narrative story. 

What visual elements are used to style the video (color, shape, line, tone, light, rhythm)? Does it stay consistent throughout or does it change? When and why does it change?

The visual elements of the video constantly change, and that is part of the story. The artist of the comic book is able to use contrast and value to distinctly tell a story with very limited colour palette. The lines are specifically used to illustrate the world that he is in, and instead of making the video look unfinished, it tells part of the story and adds to the piece. 

What are some of the key moments in the video? How are they photographed?

There are distinct key moments, such as when she enters into the comic and becomes simplified. Another key moment is when she is looking in a mirror at him, noting how there is a distinct barrier between them, but despite that they end up falling for each other. Then when the cops/waste basket starts to attack is the point of the most dynamic visual changes. The comic gets darker and there are distinctly more lines throughout. 

Does the camera stay static or is there movement? Why does the camera move?

The camera moves throughout in order to keep pace with the figures. It moves constantly to keep pace of a graphic novel, drawing the eye and keeping the focus to tell a broad story in a short amount of time. 

Does the video follow the story of the song or reinterpret it in a new way?

When looking at the lyrics apart from the music video, they tell a very different story. For the lyrics, they tell a story of a temporary love with a shy girl and an impatient guy. Whereas the music video by itself tells a vibrant story, dynamic story as he comes to live in her world. It does not lead me to interpret the song in a different way, merely that the video does not match at all what the song is trying to say.

What do you like to do? What are your interests?

I love to paint, draw, and create. Sometimes, nearby, there is a comic book convention, and I love to go to those with friends. Often I will cosplay as favourite characters at cons. I have cosplayed The Comedian, Arrow, Punisher, Ygritte, and many more.

Favorite movies, TV shows, directors and/or music?

Favourite movies would be anything marvel, Star Wars, too many to count and TV show would be Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Penny Dreadful. For directors I enjoy Quinten Tarantino and Guillermo Del Toro.

If you could make any kind of media without restrictions, what would it be?

The Media I would make without any restrictions would be movies that are not just based on comics and books but actual reproductions. So many movies are loosely based on books and comics, studio directors believing that they know better than us nerds, and then these amazing movies with beloved characters absolutely fail.

What are your goals - what do you want to do when you graduate?

My goals for when I graduate is to go into comics, gaming, or concept art. I have found when I do not use art in my day to day life, I suffer. Thus it is the best idea to go into what I love.

Why are you interested in making media?

I want to bring a diverse story to young readers and inspire generations surrounding me. I have booths in Artist Alley in conventions and see the inspirations that take hold when art is presented to open minds. I cannot wait to dig in and encourage young and old minds with brilliantly coloured, varied stories with superheroes and main characters of all types.
